Micro architecture houses are compact prefabricated housed. These houses are fully functional with all the basic requirements of a comfortable home.
They can be used as holiday homes in remote places or can be used as a spare guest room in your garden. The can be places in the middle of busy cities or in rural areas. Compact living is all about making the best use of the small space you have. Organisation, design and creativity helps in maximising the small space. The use of mirrors and good lighting gives an illusion of larger space. Going of the idea of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and how opening a door can lead you into a different place/land. I was thinking, in the front of the building, having loads of cupboards/door leading into a different feature of the house, whether it be for storage or into a room. This can also be a reflection of both their personalities, how closed of they are. 1) My initial idea when drawing out the plans were to have the rooms at the front of the building closed off and dark, then moving towards the end of the building it would become open and lighter. The would be a reflection of the clients personalities.
Looking at the bubble diagram you can see that Edmund and C.S Lewis have a lot of similarities. The space that they would share would be:
Spaces for C.S Lewis
Edmund Pevensie is a little boy from London, with three other siblings. With his brother and sisters he moved to the Professors house in the countryside as a child evacuee of the Second World War. At the start of the book Edmund is a very bitter and short temper boy, betraying his sibling because of his spitefulness. But because he is also fair minded, Edmund later became more open and giving. At the end of the book Edmund is a brave and loyal King of Narnia. C.S Lewis was a writer and also a professor and Cambridge University. C.S Lewis was also a soldier in the First World War. And like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S Lewis took child evacuees to his Kilns House in the countryside during the Second World War. So you can see where his inspiration for the book came from. Because most of his life was during the war times, C.S Lewis personality was very closed off (as were many other peoples personalities were), hiding his emotions to come of as a strong person. But looking into C.S Lewis's life you can see that through his writing he found a way to express his emotions. Lewis was writing stories in a war period and like writing about mythical creatures. These are photos of the 1:50 scaled model of the building that our group made at the beginning of the project. To help us create the model we visited the Christopher Wray building and took down the measurements of the façades of the buildings and the key features in the area. What also helped us create the model was the scaled floor plans we were assisted with. The materials we used to build the model was mainly cardboard with acetate, card and wire to help create the windows and doors.
The Christopher Wray Lighting Building is Birmingham's city centre's oldest surviving house, dated back to the 18th Century. The Georgian building was a workshop which served all the firms Lighting Emporiums throughout the country.
References https://www.facebook.com/ChristopherWrayBuilding After given the brief the class was split into half, a model making team and a drawing team. The model and orthographic drawing would be of the Christopher Wray Lighting building. Then in each team we were then split into two more teams: the model making team into a 1:50 scale model group and a 1:200 scale model group. Then the drawing team into a 1:50 sectional drawing group and a 1:200 floor plan drawing group. After getting into groups we then visited the Christopher Wray Lighting building to take down the measurements and draw some sketches of the building. Our first day of starting project 3 we were first given the brief.
The main task of project 3 is to use the exterior of the existing building (Christopher Wray Lighting) and design the interior of the building to your client. The client would be the author of your chosen fiction book, with a character from the book. The interior space would be designed imaginatively but should suit your clients needs, ergonomic abilities and limitations. After choosing the book we would have to research the author and character to figure out what kind of atmosphere they would like to have in their dedicated living space. When designing the space for the clients we would focus on the ergonomics of the space to make the most of the available area whilst ensuring functionality. |
